Happy New Year 2018!

I wish you all nothing but the best for this new year and above all good health, love, and peace. With the new year in full swing, I thought it would be fitting to share some of the things that I like to do to prepare myself for this new beginning.

Reflect On the past Year

First things first, I take a moment to reflect on the past year and really look at the good and difficult times. I like to take note of it by actually writing these moments down in a notebook or diary. I do this so that I can reflect back on it a year from now and see how things have developed over time and it’s also a great way for me to remind myself of how far I’ve come in my own personal development and also see where I need to put in more work. This is something that I’ve been doing for the past seven years and it’s something that I will continue to do as it helps me start fresh every year.

Goal & Intention Setting

Now that I’ve taken a look at the past year, it’s time to think about what areas of my life I would like to improve in 2018 and what goals I would like to set for myself. I like to set my goals into several categories: personal goals (self-development & well-being), relationship goals, financial and career goals and other. I then like to physically write my goals down, be it in a journal or by creating a mood or vision board.

I’ve done vision boards in the past and I’ve found them to be quite helpful. For those of you who might not know what a vision board is, it’s basically a collage of images, wishes, intentions, and description of things that are important to you and that you would like to achieve. The idea is also to place a picture of yourself in the center of your vision board and then fill it with the things that one would like to achieve. Now I would like to point out that while it is a great tool and something that is fun to do, writing something down like winning the lottery does not mean that it will manifest itself. I’ve had things up on my vision board that did and some that didn’t manifest and I think it’s also important to mention that not everything you desire will manifest just because you put it on your vision board as that’s not quite how it works. It is great though to keep reminding yourself of what you would like to achieve and then to take steps towards making those a reality. Here is an interesting article on this very topic from the Huffington Post if you want to learn more about it.

Taking physical Inventory of your surroundings

Just as I take inventory of what happened in the past year and prepare myself for what I would like to experience in the new year, I also believe in making space in my surroundings to let those new opportunities come in. It might sound odd but this is the time of year where I look through my home and start getting rid of things that no longer serve me, this could be books, cosmetics, papers, kitchen items, clothing, things I’ve received but have no use for whatever it is… The process of cleaning out our apartment is quite therapeutic and actually, you wouldn’t believe how much stuff a person actually holds on to and gathers over time. At the end of this thorough cleaning process, I always feel much better and my home does too ;).

Getting Organized

You’ve probably noticed that around right before New Years and in January is the time where stores display new calendars, agendas, and organizational items. As corny as this might sound, I absolutely love this time of year because it means I get to pick up a new agenda, some fun pens, and some items to help me sort out my desk and daily chores. Agendas are very important to me as they help me plan out what I need to do, appointments & special events. I’ve been thinking a lot about bullet journals as an Agenda option but honestly, I just don’t have the extra time needed to create new pages so when I stumbled upon this agenda, I knew I had to get it. I bought this end of December last year from a company called Nuts & Golden. What I really like about this agenda is how it’s set up, you can tell that a lot of thought and effort went into making it. I thought that the 2018 page was a really nice touch as it is already set up for setting your intentions and goals for the year ahead. I also really like the inspirational quotes that are found throughout the pages which just makes it really fun. Other great sections include the 6 month, monthly and weekly views to help you keep everything in perspective.  I can’t wait to start filling it in and add some nice doodles here and there.

Disclaimer: This is not an advertisement. I have purchased these items myself and have not been paid by Nuts & Golden to write about them.

I also picked up a few other items from them like this cool weekly planner.

This year I went a little overboard I do admit, but I am excited about what this new year will bring and I am looking forward to sharing more posts and ideas with you all.

What do you like to do to welcome in the New Year? I’d love to hear about your practices so make sure to comment below or on my social media.
