Disclaimer: All of the products mentioned were purchased in full by myself (except for the lancome eye cream which was a gift from my mom) and reflect my honest opinions.  Also, I am not a dermatologist. I write about skincare and beauty based on the research I have done myself and based on products that have worked for me. I always recommend that you do your own research prior and if in doubt consult a dermatologist.

Fall is by far my favorite season! I just love seeing the trees change colors into rich browns, ambers and red. With this change of season already in full swing, it’s time to take a look at switching up our skincare routines. Why? Because just like we adapt to the weather by wearing a coat when it’s cold and windy we need to protect our skin as the weather changes. The summer has been good to us, at least here in Hamburg (which is rare!) and that means, that we’ve spent it slathering on heavy sunscreens in order to soak up the suns rays. Now that it’s cooler, windier and raining more frequently it’s time to transition our skincare routine. I did a similar post to this one last year in April called Get Ready for Spring Skin which you can read here.

Fall is the perfect season to focus on my melasma and also treat any sun damage that might have occurred over the past few months. If you want to learn more about Melasma & battle with this type of hyper pigmentation make sure to stay tuned for an upcoming post on this matter.

Now, below is a list of all of the products that I am currently using in my Fall Skin Care Routine. You can find most of these at Cult Beauty or via Amazon. I realize that the order of using products can sometimes be confusing as everyone seems to have their own method. For me, I always like to begin my cleansing my face, then add a toner, eye cream, serum and then either moisturizer / night cream followed by SPF if it’s daytime.

Why I use these products in the Fall

As previously mentioned, with the temperatures dropping and the wind picking up it’s important to make sure your skin is properly hydrated and has an extra barrier to fight against the cool air.

Boosting the moisture in my skin

For this reason, I like to use a heavier eye cream like the one from Lancome to protect the delicate skin underneath my eyes. To provide my skin with as much moisture as possible I like using the cleanser from Omorovicza, Indes Lee’s COQ10 Toner and a richer, creamier moisturizer.

How I’m treating my melasma

I then alternate between using the Alpha H Liquid Gold and the Luna Retinol making sure not to use them on the same night. The Alpha H helps to brighten the skin while getting rid of dead skin cells on a deeper level. It’s also great for smoothing the texture of the skin and giving you a nice healthy looking glow. The Luna Sleeping Oil is a mild Retinol that helps fight free radicals, minimize fine lines, enlarged pores, treat sun damage and even out skin tone. Both have helped me with my melasma and I’ve already seen a big improvement!

The importance of using SPF

Just because it is getting cooler, doesn’t mean we should ditch the sunscreen! It’s important to keep your skin protected from the sun even in the fall, especially if you are using any kind of Retinol, Vitamin C Serum or Glycolic Acid in your skin care routine. To keep things simple, I like to use a sunscreen with a moisturizer built right in, like my favorite one from Rituals.

Dermarolling for collagen production

I use a derma roller on a bi-weekly basis to help speed up and encourage the cell turnover on areas of my face where I still have melasma. Basically, the needles on the roller puncture or fracture the skin which sends a signal to the body to repair itself by producing more collagen.

Last but not least, the final touch is a richer nightly moisturizer to replenish my skin from the cold weather outside.

My Results so far…

I’ve been implementing this new routine with these products for the past six weeks and I’m very happy with the results. I noticed the biggest difference in the overall texture of my skin, it’s less bumpy, my blackheads are disappearing (finally!) and the pores underneath my eyes have dramatically decreased. Also, my skin tone is definitely looking more radiant and the color is evening out nicely.
